Myles Charley, Associate Director of Development for George Mason University’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), has been elected to the Old Town Fairfax Business Association (OTFBA) Board of Directors, serving in an ex officio capacity.
His appointment presents an opportunity to further strengthen relationships between George Mason University, local businesses, and the Fairfax community.
In his role at CEHD, Charley works with alumni, donors, and community partners to support the college’s students, faculty, and programs. He also serves as an adjunct professor in Mason’s Sport Management program.
Prior to joining CEHD, Charley served as Director of the Athletics Annual Fund for George Mason Athletics, where he began building relationships with OTFBA through community engagement initiatives such as the Coaches Caravan.
“I’m excited to join the OTFBA Board and continue strengthening the connection between George Mason and the Fairfax business community,” said Charley. “I believe there is tremendous potential for us to explore ways to work together, whether tha’s identifying opportunities for students to connect with local businesses, considering experiential learning experiences, or finding ways to collaborate on events that bring the university and community together.”
Charley’s appointment also provides an opportunity to explore potential areas of collaboration among CEHD, OTFBA, and Fairfax City Economic Development. Areas of shared interest could include student engagement, community programming, and workforce development, depending on the priorities and interests of the organizations involved. Future conversations may also identify opportunities for local business leaders to engage with CEHD students and faculty, participate in university events, or explore ways to connectacademic experiences with the surrounding community. While these possibilities remain exploratory, they reflect the potential for stronger relationships between the university and local business community.
“George Mason and the City of Fairfax share a community, and I think there’s tremendous value in finding more ways to connect the two,” Charley added. I’m looking forward to learning from my fellow board members, building relationships, and exploring where our shared interests might create meaningful opportunities for collaboration.”
Through his service on the OTFBA Board, Charley hopes to contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen connections between Old Town Fairfax businesses and the Mason community while exploring opportunities for future engagement.
