Pub Scholars brings faculty experts into Fairfax to share cutting-edge ideas in tech, science & business - learn, connect & support local!
December Pub Scholars Topic - Artificial Intelligence: Blessing or Curse?
This talk provides an up-to-date review of the extraordinary characteristics of this new human capability. Questions abound. Will generative languages like ChatGPT foster greater productivity, deeper insights, or chaos? How will the growing availability of AI technologies impact democratic governance, invite repressive practices, or undermine the rule of law? Will AI open up technology opportunities previously unavailable to liberal arts graduates? Will new autonomous, AI-directed weapon systems distort battlefield outcomes? Which jobs are most susceptible to be replaced by AI interfaces? What are the latest statistics on the actual productivity advantages of AI in the workplace? Does AI have the potential to develop super intelligence which can threaten civilization? Will competing chatbots cause chaotic versions of reality through misinformation? By the time this session is presented, there will be countless new questions. The speaker will bring up all the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities.

RSD Black Friday 11/28/2025
INFO for RSD Black Friday
RSD Black Friday is a first come first served in-person event. No holds or reserves.
We open at 10am on Friday 11/28/25.
We don't know how early to tell you to line up but over the years, the RSD line typically starts hours before we open with the bulk of the line forming after 6am.
Your place in line will determine the order you will be served. We run an order counter for RSD where you tell us what you want and we grab it for you. Titles are limit one copy per customer (you can purchase as many RSD titles as you want but only one of each). Once through the line, you are welcome to browse and purchase from the rest of the shop.
We won't know for sure what we are getting until the Wednesday before RSD. We will post our full list of titles along with quantities by Wednesday evening (11/26). We order titles from the RSD list that we feel best represent our customer base, we don't order everything on the list. Titles are extremely limited and allocated. We have no control over how many we get. Please check our website and social media for updates and teasers!
Remaining RSD titles will be available on our website at 8am Saturday 11/29/25.
Be cool to one another. This is an incredible community of fellow music lovers and we are stoked to have you all walk through our doors. It takes a lot of work to make this day happen smoothly and we appreciate your cooperation!
Thanks,
The Möbius Crüe

Fairfax Farmers Market - Holiday Market
The Saturday Market is a large market with approximately 45 vendors. It was established more than 25 years ago by the Downtown Fairfax Coalition. It is a busy market with lots of activity. Customers can expect lines at the most popular vendors and sometimes early sell-outs of popular items.
Again this year, the Downtown Fairfax Coalition is sponsoring a Holiday Farmers’ Market. It will be held for the first four Saturdays in November before Thanksgiving (11/1, 11/8, 11/15, and 11/22). The hours will be 10:00 to 1:00 on Saturday only and will be located in the same lot used for the seasonal markets (10500 Page Avenue, Fairfax). This will be an outdoor “rain or shine” event.
Driving, Bicycling, or Walking? Our market is easily accessible and located only a block from historic Old Town Fairfax. Lots of free parking. We are family and pet friendly so bring your kids and your pets (leashed). Picnic tables are available for onsite dining.
The Sunday Market may open later, depending upon vendor interest. If that happens, we will post on this site.

Seasonal Sound and Silence: A Meditative and Silent Retreat - Sun & Moon Yoga
Sun & Moon Yoga
This afternoon community gathering is designed for support during difficult times by providing a local, low cost half day "retreat" as an opportunity to step away from house-holding commitments and the noise of everyday life in the D.C. area, and devote four hours to self care in the form of meditative and gentle movement practices, a sound experience, and silence. At its core, this is an opportunity to relax, rest, and restore; students also learn or further their own meditative practice and take away skills that can help them regain equanimity.
