Fall for the Book - Spring Headliner: Kate Quinn
Fall for the Book, Sponsored by the Fairfax County Public Library.
Readers who have ever wished they could live inside their favorite books will love New York Times bestselling author Kate Quinn’s latest novel, The Astral Library. When a menacing enemy appears, Alix and the Librarian run through the Regency era of Jane Austen, the threatening streets of Sherlock Holmes, and the moral decay of Gatsby’s world. Author Sarah Penner says, “With a cheeky heroine you’ll root for from page one, this is bound to be one of the biggest books of the year.” Quinn is also the author of numerous historical fiction novels, including The Briar Club, The Alice Network, The Rose Code, The Diamond Eye, and more. Sponsored by the Fairfax County Public Library.

May Pub Scholars Topic - From Idea to Orbit: How Space Missions Happen and Why They Matter
Ever used GPS to get somewhere, checked the weather on your phone, or streamed live TV while flying over an ocean? All of these everyday conveniences rely on satellites orbiting Earth - yet most of us rarely think about how those missions actually come together.
In this Pub Scholars talk, Dr. Hina Kazmi will share how modern space missions move from idea to orbit, and why they matter here on Earth. Drawing on more than 25 years in aerospace, including work with NASA and the commercial space sector, she’ll explain how government and companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin, small businesses, and global supply chain work together to make missions possible.
The talk will briefly touch on high-profile missions in the news, including Artemis II, to illustrate how these programs come together over years of planning, policy, and collaboration.
Join us for a relaxed and engaging evening as we connect the dots between space missions and everyday life, and discover how ideas become reality in orbit and beyond.

1:00 PM - 3:00PM
Sun & Moon Yoga in Fairfax (map)
We close the weekend by exploring one of spring’s most essential qualities: buoyancy.
As Kapha gives way to Pitta later in spring, the body naturally seeks more lift, warmth, and expression. In this energizing and playful class, we’ll explore where we need containment and where we’re ready to rise—physically, energetically, and emotionally.
Through creative sequencing, standing poses, balance work, and breath-led transitions, we’ll cultivate lightness without force and strength without rigidity. Thoughtful use of props will support both grounding and expansion, helping prana move freely while maintaining steadiness.
This practice is designed to leave you feeling uplifted, confident, and aligned with spring’s upward momentum.

Softening Kapha, Awakening Prana: Yin Yoga, Poetry & the Ayurvedic Art of Beginning Again
Sun and Moon Yoga
Friday April 17, 2026
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Sun & Moon Yoga in Fairfax (map)
In Ayurveda, early spring is a Kapha-dominant time—cool, heavy, and moist. While spring is often associated with movement and growth, Ayurveda reminds us that true renewal begins with softening, warming, and releasing what has accumulated.
Long-held, nourishing poses support the nervous system and tissues, while poetry and simple pranayama invite reflection and inner listening. Rather than pushing toward change, we allow space for emergence—trusting the body’s natural intelligence to set the pace.
This is a practice of rest as preparation, helping you arrive grounded, open, and ready for the weekend ahead.
