Fall for the Book in Partnership with the City of Fairfax. 

What do you get when you give three writers only two sentences and twenty minutes? A Story Sprint! Emcee and author Zach Powers will pull two audience-suggested sentences from a hat which will serve as the opening and closing lines for these impromptu tales. Featured sprinters  Hannah Grieco, author of First Kicking, Then Not, Megan Howell, author of Softie: Stories, and Michael Don, author of Partners and Strangers will then write for their lives. This classic interactive race will include fun writing games for attendees during the Sprint, followed by a reading of the final stories. Presented in Partnership with the City of Fairfax.

Help Us Align Zoning with the City's Vision - Join the March 26 Open House

In 2024, the city began a project to review and update the Zoning Ordinance to better align with the guidance provided in the Small Area Plans. In 2025, a community meeting was held to gather feedback on proposed options. Input from community members, Planning Commission, and City Council helped guide the development of draft amendments to the zoning ordinance. Now the project team is preparing a draft - and we need your input!

Join us for an open house on March 26th at the Sherwood Community Center (3740 Blenheim Blvd) anytime between 5 and 8pm to learn about the draft amendments and provide feedback.

During the Fairfax Tour of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week, this beautifully preserved 1807 home will be open for visitors. Discover the legacy of Kitty Pozer, a founding member of the Fairfax Garden Club 100 years ago, and stroll through the charming Pozer Garden nestled behind the house.

The tours will take place on Tuesday, April 21st from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are free.

The City of Fairfax Commission on the Arts, in coordination with the Spotlight on the Arts festival, is planning an Art Walk in Old Town Fairfax on Sunday, May 3, the final day of the festival. The event will take place along Main Street in Old Town Fairfax, in the parking lot at 10409 Main St. and potentially at Old Town Square.

The Washington Balalaika Society is a community orchestra of musicians organized to perform the music of Eastern European countries on traditional Russian folk instruments. The largest orchestra of its kind in America! The orchestra includes voices, balalaikas and domras, as well as bayans and accordions, a traditional wind section of flutes, clarinet, oboes and percussion. What an experience!

Sip, stroll and explore on this relaxed, social brewery walk. We will visit three of the area's local breweries, each just a short walk apart. making it easy and enjoyable for all fitness levels.
At each stop, guests can choose their own beer! One brewery stop will also include a shared appetizer, giving everyone a chance to refuel, settle in, and enjoy the social aspect of the tour.
We will have time to enjoy each brewery, to get to know the distinct vibe of each place that we visit.
Non-Drinkers are welcome to join the tour for the social experience. We will have NA drinks upon availability and of course the above-mentioned appetizer.
This tour is perfect for locals, visitors, couples, friends, families, singles, and anyone looking for an easygoing afternoon with great beer and good company.
The tour is two hours and includes four five-minute walks to the different locations please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather. Fairfax Funky Flea Market

A community outdoor flea market located in the heart of Fairfax City, Virginia. With over 70 vendors, there is something for everyone at the Fairfax Funky Flea!

The City of Fairfax is located 15 miles west of Washington, DC in the center of Northern Virginia. The flea meets on the last Saturday of the month, from April through November. We're staying at our 2024 location thanks to the generosity of our partner Ox Hill Companies and our sponsor: the Old Town Fairfax Business Association.  Find us at 4031 University Drive (the large lot behind the United Bank), just one block from Main Street in Old Town Fairfax..
